As a former literature student, I have an affinity for all things book! In fact, some people might say I have a bit of an obsession over buying good quality literature. Now that two of our girls are reading independently, I have created booklists for their school year, appropriate to the age and reading levels of each. Both girls are already bookworms -- how could they not be?! My hope is that they will also develop a taste for "the true, beautiful, and lovely" and eschew the twaddle. … [Read more...]

Resolution in Our Homeschool Challenges

 photo 12861f5a-649e-4a7d-910b-a74c05ecd4d7.png

We are in our 5th week of the new homeschool year, and overall, I feel pretty happy with our subjects, curricula, and how things are going. This year we're tackling a lot more subjects than we have in the past, but they are all subjects that Mama enjoys. Unlike in the past when I tried to do an extra math program or a popular science curriculum because I thought it was "what I should do," this year I am only doing what I know is in the best interest of my children and me -- not what the public … [Read more...]

 photo 12861f5a-649e-4a7d-910b-a74c05ecd4d7.png

Last week I briefly and very generally shared our homeschool plans for the coming year. I want to elaborate on the specifics in this post. My intentions are simply to share what we are doing/reading/learning in an attempt to help and encourage anyone who might need some guidance or ideas :) Our school year is broken up into 3 terms. Each term is 12 weeks long but at week 6, we take a short break. This year I will have a baby in January, so our second term will look a little different than … [Read more...]

It has been awhile since I last posted, but I'm popping back on to share with you our homeschool plans and curriculum for the coming school year. We officially started back last week but at a nice leisurely pace ;) Meet My Students This year I have 3 students. Kate is 7 1/2 and starting 3rd grade. She is active, an avid reader, and loves to cartwheel, flip, stand on her head, and do backbends. Cora is 5 1/2 and starting 1st grade. Curious, imaginative, and funny, she has recently … [Read more...]

ESV Family Devotional Bible {Review & Giveaway}

What is more important than reading the Bible? Reading the Bible as a family! Having a family devotional time each day is the perfect way to engage in God's Word with your loved ones. Our Bible time happens in the mornings right after breakfast and morning chores. We usually sing a few hymns, pray, read a Bible story, and work on scripture memorization. Recently, I had the opportunity to review Crossway's ESV Family Devotional Bible. (Scroll down to the bottom of the post for the … [Read more...]

31 Dinner Ideas for the Month of May

 photo 12861f5a-649e-4a7d-910b-a74c05ecd4d7.png

I love to cook. If you know my mom, then you wouldn't be at all surprised. She is a masterful chef who my husband lovingly refers to as "the MacGyver of the Kitchen" because she can take 3 seemingly unrelated foods and turn them into a gastronomical masterpiece. I don't have her creative knack for cooking but I'm trying. Unfortunately, my children would prefer burgers and chicken tenders over Avocado Black Bean Enchiladas (yum btw!) or Chicken Alfredo Spaghetti Squash (not so yum). While … [Read more...]

Gluten-Free Meal Plan for March 13

 photo 12861f5a-649e-4a7d-910b-a74c05ecd4d7.png

This week is pretty low-key, which I need. The weekends lately have been a little more intense than I would like because of these beauties . . . There's fencing that needs going up and fixing and other a sundry "cow things". But I admit that I'm quite smitten with these mamas and their babies. No worries, I'm not naming them or feeding them special treats because they are being raised for food. Anyway this week is the Teach Them Diligently Convention in Nashville, and I am so thankful … [Read more...]

Gluten-Free Meal Plan for the Week of February 28

It's been quite a while since I last posted our weekly meals on here, but meal planning is essential to my sanity. I hate waiting until the last minute to decide what to fix. Spontaneity is NOT my thing. But when I have a plan, I'm more relaxed, we eat healthier, and we save money. So taking 20 minutes every Friday to plan our week's meals is a no-brainer for me. Here is our gluten-free meal plan for the week. {FYI: I prepare all of our meals sans gluten, so even if I post a recipe containing … [Read more...]

Jan/Feb 2016 Books We’ve Been Reading

 photo 12861f5a-649e-4a7d-910b-a74c05ecd4d7.png

Winter is my favorite season for reading. There's just nothing like snuggling up with a hot mug of coffee and a page-turner. This winter has been colder than usual here in Tennessee, and while my kids watch their fair share of "Wild Kratts," they're also spending quite a bit of time with some good reads. Weekly library trips, daily read-aloud times, "the quiet reading hour", and assigned books are just a few ways we make reading in our home a priority. And the rule is that Mama reads too. No … [Read more...]

One Personal Goal for 2016: Transparency

 photo 12861f5a-649e-4a7d-910b-a74c05ecd4d7.png

So, it's been a while since I last posted. Some things have happened . . . We've moved! To a farm! While I'm usually sharing my list of personal goals for the year on January 1, we spent New Year's Day getting settled into our new home instead, and I have felt the Lord urging me to simplify. Hence no blog posts. I've been preoccupied with other things. However, I would be remiss if I didn't share what God has laid on my heart instead of "Exercise 3 days a week" and "Read 50 … [Read more...]
