Our Holiday Homeschool Plans — 2017

I haven't shared about our homeschool this year because I've just been too busy, but we are trying out a new Charlotte Mason-based curriculum called The Alveary, which is providing our school-age girls with a FEAST of living ideas from a BUFFET of subjects, many of which I personally never had in school, or not in so lovely a way. It has truly been enjoyable. No mindless memory work or tedious worksheets. No lengthy school days (we're done by lunch). I could go on but that's a whole 'nother … [Read more...]

Summer Meal Plan: Cool Meals for Hot Days

It's only the middle of June and we've already hit 90 degree weather here in Tennessee! While I love sunshine and warm weather, I do not like a hot house. In fact, earlier this week I turned the oven on in the afternoon to fix a roast and could not cool down until I took a cold bath later that night! That's when I decided to create a Summer Meal Plan. My Summer Meal Plan consists of recipes that do not require the use of the oven. Instead, I'm opting to use my crockpot, Instant Pot, … [Read more...]

Summer Time is Here!

Wow! It has been entirely too long since I last posted. December. But we officially finished our school year last Friday, so I have decided to try my hand at writing again. Not that I'm a wealth of wisdom, but I want to share with you some of the things that God has been teaching me as a wife, a mother, a homeschool mama, and as a woman. If you've been following my blog for any time, you may have noticed that good books are central to my life and our homeschool. Since I haven't posted … [Read more...]

Win Chris Tomlin’s “Adore: Christmas Songs of Worship” {Review & Giveaway}

We have a little rule in our family. No Christmas trees, no Christmas music, no Christmas anything until after Thanksgiving. It's so easy for me to miss out on the beauty of today if I'm always looking to tomorrow. It was worth it. {Scroll down to enter the giveaway!} Chris Tomlin is best known for his praise & worship music, and his latest CD … [Read more...]

Black Friday Deals & Steals

Who doesn't love a good deal? I do! But I do not like to bother with all those people and lines and limited inventory, so I do almost all of my Christmas shopping online. So I want to share with you a few Black Friday sales that do not require you to leave the house! These companies all provide products that I stand behind and personally use. I would not waste my time promoting products that aren't of the best quality and family-oriented. Grapevine Studies has their Birth of Jesus … [Read more...]

A Thanksgiving Message . . . We Have Work to Do

This morning in my quiet time the Lord brought to my mind how truly blessed I am. Fitting, I know, since today is Thanksgiving. But not only do I experience all the necessities of life, but I have family, friends, safety, monetary abundance, good health, and most importantly, salvation. How many people in this world can boast of all that? This life is not easy for so many who face oppression, sickness, and injustice, but for those of us who only see glimpses of those struggles, the Lord … [Read more...]

Thanksgiving Week 2015 Meal Plan & More

As soon as Halloween ends, the busyness of the holidays commences around here. Do you feel the same way? There are gatherings with family and friends in anticipation of Thanksgiving, then the Big Day, and the day after, we start to prepare for Christmas and prepare all our baking needs, gift lists, holiday pictures, decorations, and more, and on and on. My goal this year is to step off the action-packed ride that we're supposed to be enjoying and focus on what's truly important. Hint: It isn't … [Read more...]

Maestro Classics: “The Nutcracker” {Review}

Two years ago I took our oldest daughter to see a local production of the Nutcracker ballet. She fell in love and so did I. Afterwards, we checked out all the library books on the Nutcracker we could find and watched countless Youtube videos of the performance. Kate and her little sisters pirouetted across our living room floor to "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and imagined they were each Clara on her journey with the Nutcracker prince. Since that ballet our girls have always gravitated toward … [Read more...]
