ESV Family Devotional Bible {Review & Giveaway}

ESV Family Devotional Bible-2

What is more important than reading the Bible? Reading the Bible as a family! Having a family devotional time each day is the perfect way to engage in God’s Word with your loved ones.

Our Bible time happens in the mornings right after breakfast and morning chores. We usually sing a few hymns, pray, read a Bible story, and work on scripture memorization. Recently, I had the opportunity to review Crossway’s ESV Family Devotional Bible. (Scroll down to the bottom of the post for the giveaway!)

ESV Family Devotional Bible

First, let me tell you what the ESV Family Devotional Bible is and what you’ll find in it:

The ESV Family Devotional Bible is a Bible AND devotional all-in-one. There are 130 devotionals interspersed among the text that feature key stories from the Bible. With each devotional, you will find (1) the Biblical text from which the devotional is taken, (2) a lovely Gospel-centered, narrative-style devotional, (3) discussion questions, (4) key verses, and (5) additional references.

Features include:

  • 130 full-page, full-color illustrations
  • Full-color, kid-friendly maps
  • Reflection questions for the whole family to discuss
  • Ribbon marker

The goal of the ESV Family Devotional Bible is to help families read and apply God’s Word together — as a family — so that reading the Bible becomes a habit.

ESV Family Devotional Bible-4How We’re Using it

For the past 2 weeks during morning Bible time, my girls and I have been reading through a devotional in the ESV Family Devotional Bible together. Afterwards, I will first ask each child to narrate, sharing something she learned from the text or offering a main idea. Then, we will discuss the included questions. If there are other pertinent issues to address, we will discuss them too. Because the devotional is simply a short overview of the Bible story, we may go back to the text and read from the Bible to clarify any questions we might have or if I think we need to dig a little deeper.

What I like about the ESV Family Devotional Bible is how easy it is to have a devotional: no planning, no prep work, it’s open-and-go! The illustrations are gorgeous and hold my girls’ attention, the questions prompt good discussion, and if there’s a question from one of my children, I don’t have to go run and find a Bible. The ESV Family Devotional Bible is a Bible, too! The stories are simple enough for my 4-year-old but rich enough even for the adults.

The ESV Family Devotional Bible is perfect for married couples and growing families, new Christians and those mature in the faith. Everyone can benefit from this Bible.
