31 Dinner Ideas for the Month of May

I love to cook. If you know my mom, then you wouldn’t be at all surprised. She is a masterful chef who my husband lovingly refers to as “the MacGyver of the Kitchen” because she can take 3 seemingly unrelated foods and turn them into a gastronomical masterpiece. I don’t have her creative knack for cooking but I’m trying. Unfortunately, my children would prefer burgers and chicken tenders over Avocado Black Bean Enchiladas (yum btw!) or Chicken Alfredo Spaghetti Squash (not so yum).

While experimenting with new recipes is a fun hobby for me, it often leads to a lot of wasted food and a disappointed Mama who just wants her tribe to enjoy what she’s fixed. For May, I decided that instead of planning week-to-week — like I normally do — I would plan out our meal plan for the entire month. While I know many people meal plan for an entire month (and even shop only 1x a month!), I have never been successful with it.

But I am going to give it another try because I don’t have time to scour Pinterest for new recipes that MOST of the time my kids do not like anyway. So, in an effort to save my time (and money), I have gone through my trusty Meal Plan Notebook and jotted down 31 of our tried and true favorite family meals. My plan is to pick one meal from the list each week of May.

31 Dinner Ideas for May + Favorite Sides

(I usually plan out only dinners because breakfasts are always the same and lunches are usually leftovers.)

In case you are looking for some new recipes or just don’t want to think about what you’ll be eating in May, I am sharing our 31 Dinner Ideas for the Month of May plan below. These recipes are not new to our family and are generally well liked. Following the main dishes, I have included a few sides that we all enjoy. We usually eat what’s in season and on sale at the grocery store, what’s in the garden, or what I have on hand but these sides are family favorites too.

    I’ve been wanting to try your stovetop mac and cheese. It’s on our menu for this week!

  2. The key is to take the pot off the burner before you stir in the cheese. That way your sauce is nice and creamy and not lumpy. And I prefer to use an extra sharp cheese. Hope your family likes it!
