Love Letters to Your Man: Tell Him Why You Love Him + Free Printable Hearts

Last year I created this Love Letter Scavenger Hunt for my husband. To simplify things this year, I created a template heart so all I have to do is print, cut out, and write a “love letter” on the opposite side of each one.

"I love . . ."

Then, each morning, I sneak a love letter heart into my hubby’s wallet, his pants or coat pocket,or his lunch so he’s sure to find it some time during the day.

Who doesn’t like to hear what you love about them? I know I do. This love letter scavenger hunt is a fun, playful way to keep the love alive and shows your man that you recognize all his hard work and love his heart even when you may not feel comfortable verbalizing it.

Some ideas for what to write:

  • I love how you come home and instantly switch gears, giving me a break and giving the kids your attention.
  • I love your generous heart.
  • I love how you never turn down someone in need.
  • I love watching you grow closer to the Lord.
  • I love your beautiful blue eyes.
  • I love how you always know how to make me laugh just when I need it.
  • I love that you know how to cook.
  • I love how you know exactly when I need some time to breathe.

Valentine’s Day is just one day a week. This activity would be fun to do any time of the year. Just find a way to communicate to your beloved how much you love him.

  1. This is a wonderful idea! I think maybe once I’ve snuck a note to my husband in his coat pocket & he didn’t find it at all that day! I had to tell him he had something in his pocket so he’d better go find it and read it…or else. πŸ™‚

One thing you said, “…even when you’re not comfortable verbalizing it.” It got me thinking…we’ve been married for 14 years, why is it uncomfortable for me to verbalize my love to my husband? I hadn’t thought about it until you made that statement, but it’s true, the discomfort is there. Anyway, a thought that I’m now pondering, and I think is worth other wives to ponder as well. πŸ™‚

    Thanks for this! Great ideas!

    • Thanks, Caroline. I had to tell my husband about the first one, but then every day he was looking for the next one πŸ™‚ It’s fun!

I think difficulty verbalizing love for others is just a personality quirk. I’m not affectionate, physically or verbally; my husband is both. However, I show my love to others through gift-giving and acts of service. That’s not an excuse. I still need to verbalize and show love, but I know that there are other areas in which I excel at showing love.

  2. What a cute idea! We don’t celebrate valentine’s day because our anniversary is exactly a week later, so I’ll do this for that instead!

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. I absolutely adore the idea of doing a love scavenger hunt. I think I will try this next year with my husband in the days leading up Valentine’s Day. My favorite way to show my husband that I love him is by writing love letters every once in a while. I also, go out of my way to make his favorite dishes. Stopping by from SITS.

  4. That’s really sweet actually. It reminds us that we should tell each other why we love each other, and it should be always, not just on valentine’s day.

  8. None of us can ever hear about how we are loved enough, can we? This is such a creative, individualized yet not overwhelming way to get that oh so important message across. I realize, too, it can be done for any family member or dear friend who needs the TLC.

    Great idea!
